Veterinary Workshops: Rehabilitation
Course Description
This course combines the expertise of a physiotherapist, surgeon and nutritionist to bring you up to date and detailed information necessary to start doing rehabilitation work in your own practice. The rehabilitation workshop is taught in a relaxed and interactive manner.
This 2 day workshop focuses on:
- Why rehabilitation is so beneficial to your patients. We explore the specific effects it has on the various tissues at different stages of healing and how to best affect the healing process. Once you understand this you will immediately be able to make some simple and very important changes that will greatly help you patients
- We spend a good portion of time on patient assessment including gait analysis and orthopedic examination, and various land and water exercises used to help improve and alter the gaits
- Passive treatments (Heat, cold, massage, PROM, stretches, manual joint therapy) will be thoroughly discussed
- Therapeutic modalities such as ultra sound, laser, TENS and EMG will be discussed so that you have a full understanding of their applications
- Weight management is discussed in a practical and applicable fashion
- The emphasis for the course is placed on understanding the process of rehabilitation and creating therapeutic protocols. You will be given the tools necessary to systematically assess and manage a patient
- Most importantly, you will practice creating therapeutic protocols for various patients
Who Is This Course For?
This course is designed for veterinarians and veterinary technicians. We encourage having several people from the same hospital attend by decreasing the fee for additional registrants. We believe that a team approach to rehabilitation produces better results.
